SCOTLAND'S prison population could rise to 10,600 at an additional cost of GBP160m a year to taxpayers if ministers agree that criminals should serve their full sentence.
Cathy Jamieson, the justice minister, has said in an answer to a parliamentary question that the number in jail would rise by between 3000 and 4000 in five to six years if convicted criminals were forced to serve theirwhole sentence.See the full content of this document
