DAVID JAMES will never play for England again. Not because he played like a drain on Wednesday, even by his calamitous standards, but because he fronted up to his failings after the Denmark fiasco and, with disarming honesty, admitted that he had been ill- prepared.

Too honest for his own good, the Manchester City keeper chose not to slope out of the Copenhagen stadium via the back door but look his critics in the eye and acknowledge his shortcomings. Unfortunately for England, the real culprit escaped relatively unscathed.
