Sir James Hann was the adopted Scot whose management vision carved out new eras in disciplines as diverse as the dairy industry and the North Sea. He also turned round the fortunes of Scottish Nuclear from a loss-making organisation into a profitable company of world-class standards.

His trademark penchant for lateral thinking early marked him out as a natural leader, a quality curiously overlooked when officer cadet selection staff of the Royal Artillery informed him that he possessed "no leadership qualities whatsoever".
