Summary
January 31, 2004: An "intense" fire breaks out in a linen cupboard on the ground floor of Rosepark Nursing Home at 4.25am. The fire alarm goes off for the first time three minutes later, as smoke spreads into corridor three where six residents are sleeping - with bedroom doors open.
4.37am: Firefighters are called nine minutes after the fire alarm first sounded. On arrival, they lose a further four-and-a-half minutes breaking through padlocked iron gates in order to access the grounds. They had mistakenly been sent to the postal address in New Edinburgh Road instead of the entrance at Rosepark Avenue. Ten residents were declared dead at the scene and seven more taken to hospital in what would become the largest loss of life at any registered premises in Scotland since the 1960s.See the full content of this document
