Lennart Johansson, who lost the FIFA presidency election to Sepp Blatter in 1998, believes his hopes may have been damaged by vote- buying. The 82-year-old lost out to Blatter by 111 votes to 80. The Swiss himself last year accepted there had been vote-buying in that election.
