Alex Rae was yesterday handed a five-match ban and condemned for gross misconduct by UEFA following his kick at the head of Serghei Dadu in Rangers' Champions League qualifier against CSKA Moscow last week.

As was widely expected, UEFA's disciplinary committee looked at video evidence of the incident, which was missed by the match referee, Jan Wegereef, and chose to come down severely on Rae.
