CHARLES Kennedy's leadership of the Liberal Democrats was slipping from his grasp last night with almost half his MPs in open rebellion.

Twenty-five signed a letter of no confidence, calling on him to quit. Two shadow cabinet members have tendered their resignation, with a further six threatening to walk out on Monday.
