C raig Brown and Archie Knox clocked in on their first day as Aberdeen's new management team yesterday and acknowledged the enormity of the task they face if they are to resuscitate the worst Pittodrie team in years.

Brown, renowned for his diplomacy, would not openly criticise the squad he watched ship five goals in a "headless chickens" performance against Hearts at Tynecastle on Saturday, but he was clear that new faces must be introduced in the January transfer window in an effort to stem a tide of displays which have fallen well below mediocrity. The problem will be trying to persuade some of the current squad to head for the exit door.
