"BIG four" accountant KPMG saw Scottish income race ahead by 25- per cent in the last quarter of 2004, but the firm still has ground to make up on its peers in respect of profitability.

KPMG's 553 UK partners, excluding a handful on secondment, earned an average of pounds-457,000 in 2004, some pounds-164,000 less than their counterparts at top performer Deloitte. Partners at PricewaterhouseCoopers and Ernst & Young banked around pounds- 50,000 more.
