THE unsightly spectacle of Sotirios Kyrgiakos floundering in Rangers' Scottish Cup defeat to Hibernian seemed to encapsulate many of the problems that have once more condensed into a crisis at Ibrox.

It would be ludicrous to attribute sole blame to the Greek defender for the early end of Rangers' domestic ambitions, but his part in their downfall is among the most intruiguing. Alex McLeish went out on a limb to bring Kyrgiakos to Ibrox a second time, only to inherit a shrunken version of the towering presence that was glimpsed during last year's loan from Panathinaikos.
