PHILIP Green, the retail tycoon, last night tantalisingly dangled Marks & Spencer over his shopping basket as he admitted he is considering a bid for the vulnerable high street giant.

It is the second time Green, who is already the number one womenswear retailer on the high street by market share, has stunned the market with an audacious and opportunistic play for M&S. He failed to execute a (pounds) 6bn bid in 1999.
