WHAT is the true cost of farmed salmon? On the surface fish farming is a great Scottish success story. In the past year alone, exports have risen from around 65,500 tonnes to nearly 80,000 tonnes. And an agreement signed in January between the Scottish and Chinese governments opened the door to the world's largest seafood market. It is not inconceivable that Scottish salmon exports could double in a few years.
Fish farming is also a valuable source of employment in remote rural areas where there are few alternative sources of work. Including processing, the industry supports more than 6000 jobs.See the full content of this document
