Scotland's women's clubs have voted to establish a reserve league from season 2005-06, the Scottish Hockey Union announced yesterday. However, they face a backlash from the country's leading clubs, who argue that restructuring will lead to a general lowering of standards.

The need for change in the current set-up revolves around Glasgow Western, based in the city's South Side, which has had both its first and second teams in the top division of the national league for the past 17 years. Last season, Western A finished in sixth place, well ahead of the bottom four.
