TONY Blair yesterday insisted being at the heart of Europe was in Britain's national interest as he kicked off Labour's European election campaign.

Flanked by Jack Straw, foreign secretary and Patricia Hewitt, trade and industry secretary, the prime minister offered voters a choice between Labour, which would keep Britain at the heart of Europe and the Tories, who would leave the country marginalised.
