The 32 owners voted 31-0, with the Oakland Raiders abstaining, in support of a 10-year collective bargaining agreement they hope will resolve their bitter labour dispute and ensure the new season goes ahead as planned.

"We are pleased to announce that our clubs have approved the terms of a long-term negotiated agreement with the NFL players. It includes many positive changes that emerged from a spirit of compromise rooted in doing what is best for the game and players," said Roger Goodell, the NFL's Commissioner.
