A MEDIEVAL well said to have been used by Oliver Cromwell to fortify his horses before sacking a Border abbey has been uncovered and is being restored.

The historic site, tucked away behind a modern swimming pool in the Scottish Borders, had all but been forgotten until leisure centre staff started to carry out some landscaping.
