SO, THIS friend of mine was doing a spot of gardening and managed an unscheduled back flip off a terracing wall while shifting pots. Might have been worse - she broke a wrist when she could have fractured something more vital. Before she went off to get plastered, someone gave her some urgent advice. "In the hospital, tell them you ski. Tell them you golf. Otherwise they'll just look at your date of birth and be much less fussy what kind of cast you get."

Some hospitals are like that. They don't ever look past the DOB. Periodically, horror stories emerge of patients routinely not considered for interventions which would be standard procedure if they hadn't committed the unpardonable sin of being eligible to pick up their pension.
