I read with interest the article by Sara McCorquodale, Peace at Last for the Forgotten (The Herald Society, May 2), having conducted such funerals myself from time to time.

There is indeed a particular sadness about them. I would make one small point, however, regarding her comment "Hector's funeral was . . . only attended by people who were earning money for their time spent".
