THE Liberal Democrats today promise to reopen thousands of miles of railway track and stations across the country in what they say would be the biggest expansion of the network since the Victorian era.

The work would be paid for with nearly pound(s)3 billion that would be switched from road to rail, says party transport spokesman Norman Baker.
