Lloyds to Hurt Charities

Summary

IN MORE than 40 years involvement in the voluntary sector, working with local charities in areas of deprivation, I have found one of the most supportive funders to be Lloyds TSB Foundation for Scotland.

I am, therefore, deeply worried when I hear Lloyds Banking Group is proposing a 50per cent reduction in the funds of the foundation, and outside influence (a senior banker being appointed to the foundation's board) in where money will go in future. Every local and national authority recognises the part played by such small, local charities. Getting and retaining funding for such work is increasingly difficult. It would be a tragedy if a body such as Lloyds TSB Foundation for Scotland, locally based and locally run, were to have its activities curtailed, especially by a banking group owned mainly by ourselves.
