The 35-year-old batsman and wicketkeeper has represented his country 178 times over a 16-year period. As well as being Scotland's fourth most-capped player, he is eighth in the all-time list of run scorers with more than 3500. He made his debut against MCC in 1995 and notched a century in his second appearance the following year.

Lockhart said: "After 16 years of international cricket and nine years of combining the game with a full-time job, I feel I can no longer make the necessary sacrifices to compete at international level. This is the right time for me to finish my international career and allow younger players the opportunity to progress."
