The 35-year-old batsman and wicketkeeper has represented his country 178 times over a 16-year period. As well as being Scotland's fourth most-capped player, he is eighth in the all-time list of run scorers with more than 3500. He made his debut against MCC in 1995 and notched a century in his second appearance the following year.
Lockhart said: "After 16 years of international cricket and nine years of combining the game with a full-time job, I feel I can no longer make the necessary sacrifices to compete at international level.
