MOUNTAIN bikers were yesterday warned to wear helmets after research revealed the true scale of off-road accidents.

A survey commissioned by the Scottish Executive found that 41percent of all cycling crashes now occur off-road.More than half of those happen on mountain bike trails and cycle paths, such as the Seven Stanes forest trails in Dumfries and Galloway and the Borders.
