A LOOPHOLE which allows older lorries and coaches to drive up to 14mph faster on motorways than new vehicles fitted with speed limiters will be closed under new Government proposals.
The Department for Transport announced a consultation yesterday on plans to remove the anomaly by which HGVs fitted with automated speed limiting mechanisms can only drive at 56mph while vehicles of up to 7.5 tonnes can travel at 70mph without them. Under the proposals, lorries would all be required to observe a 60mph limit.See the full content of this document
