LOW & Bonar, the international plastics and materials firm, yesterday revealed that strong sales of carpet tiles and artificial grass used on sports pitches boosted first-half profits by a third.

Despite what it called unhelpful market conditions, the Scottish maker of yarns, fabrics and flooring products was confident of sustaining progress in the second half.
