PROFITS at Mactaggart & Mickel, the long-established Scottish housebuilder, dipped (pounds) 513,000 for the year to the end of April, despite the buoyant new-build market north of the border.

The 80-year-old firm refused to comment on the decline, although its latest accounts, obtained from Companies House, indicate that a margins squeeze and rising pay packages for directors were contributors to the bottom-line tumble.
