THE major championship drought for Europeans continued yesterday with Sergio Garcia, the young Spaniard, the leading light as he closed with a level-par 70 for a five-over aggregate of 285.

Luke Donald, who promised so much in the opening rounds, plummeted down the leaderboard with an 80, and Lee Westwood was also heading south leaving Garcia, who won at Congressional last week in the Booz Allen Classic, alone in the spotlight.
