A GROWING number of Scottish manufacturers expect sales to increase in the coming 12 months, but this has just barely translated into higher profit expectations as the cost of raw materials and transportation will likely eat into margins.

The latest quarterly business survey from the Scottish Chambers of Commerce also shows a decline in confidence across the manufacturing sector during the final three months of 2004, while retailers reported a similar dip.
