Summary

THE McLellan Galleries in Glasgow was named through being the home of original ownerArchibald McLellan, who contributed much culturally and politically to the city. Margaret Sibbald was appalled that he was, until recently, buried without memorial in an anonymous grave in the Necropolis, and was determined to rectify it.

This objective she pursued tenaciously over a number of years. Along with her colleague, Elizabeth Cassells, she set up the Archibald McLellan Memorial Trust, the aim being to erect a prominent memorial stone dedicated to him. They succeeded and she was able to see it unveiled in the Necropolis by the lord provost, Elizabeth Cameron on May 25 2004, during the last full year of her life.
