David Marshall must wonder what next the fates can conspire to throw at him when he is faced by the famous red and blue jerseys of Barcelona. Having made his name with a prodigious display against the Catalan club in last season's UEFA Cup, he performed comic-book heroics again only to end the match in misery.
Magicians rely on deception to practise their art, making people look in the wrong place at the right time. Ronaldinho's sorcery with a football tricked Celtic time and again at Parkhead last night but, when it came to the potential showstopper, Marshall was not deceived. Had the Brazilian scored his second-half penalty, Barca would surely have played out the remainder of the match in comfort.
