KEVIN McCrae, who died as the result of an accident, was marked for musical success from an early age.

During his school years at Kincorth Academy, Aberdeen, his musical talents as a gifted cellist, pianist and music arranger were soon discovered and enthusiastically nurtured, under the guidance of his first cello teacher, Morag Easton.

With her encouragement and others around him, Kevin was awarded a foundation scholarship to the Royal College of Music, London, in 1979, where he continued his studies with cellist Joan Dickson and William Pleeth and conducting with the late Norman Del Mar.
