SOME 700,000 people with mortgage endowments have already missed the deadline for lodging mis-selling complaints against either the insurance provider or the independent financial advisers that sold the policy.

In a heated meeting of the influential Treasury select committee, chairman John McFall, Labour MP for Dumbarton, said it was "inexcusable" that so many savers facing huge potential shortfalls in their policies had been stranded without any recourse to compensation.
