SCOTLAND'S most senior law officer has hit back at politicians over repeated calls for an inquiry into the controversial case of Shirley McKie, the former police officer wrongly accused of leaving her fingerprint at a murder scene.

Colin Boyd QC, the Lord Advocate and Scotland's chief prosecutor, took the unprecedented step of defending the Crown's decisions in the case of the former policewoman.
