WITH time running out on a medical exemption, Scotland's Alan McLean showed he was in rude health by racing to the top of the first-round leaderboard at the Wales Open with a five-under-par 66.

The 38-year-old Clydebank-born player is resident in Canada, was raised in South Africa and he also had Jamie Gough, younger brother of former Rangers and Scotland captain Richard, to thank for his return to form.
