COALITION ministers are determined to maintain the overnight count for the Holyrood elections and are willing to legislate to force the returning officers to preserve the traditional election night drama.
Westminster sources have told The Herald the UK Government is willing to put an amendment to the Parliamentary Voting System and Constituencies Bill - cur-rently going through Parliament and which facilitates the referendum on the Alternative Vote - to ensure the count for the Scottish parliamentary elections takes place as soon as the ballot closes on Thursday, May 5.See the full content of this document
