TELLING people you're going to stay in a wigwam at the weekend provokes some odd reactions. Some just looked bemused, some are intrigued, one says: "Out of everything you could have possibly told me you were doing this weekend, that is the last thing I expected to hear."

Wigwams aren't an everyday thing, which makes staying in one all the more exciting. My boyfriend Alec and I arrive at Strathfillan Wigwams, between Crianlarich and Tyndrum, in the West Highlands, and are immediately sold on the concept.
