ITwas typical of John Morris that he should have been engaged in work for the community as a member of the Helensburgh Community Centre Trust, when he was tragically killed in a car accident on Thursday, December 9. Local interests had played a growing part in his busy life following retirement from an academic post at Strathclyde University.

His many other local interests included fighting to prevent the building of a supermarket on the Helensburgh front, and preserving the green belt. He was a past president of the Probus Club, a member of the Civic Society, the community council, the Helensburgh Vision Study Group and a very keen sailor.
