I know the road we are going down. The words were those of Tony Mowbray. The sentiments were heartfelt. But, in truth, no-one knows where any football team are heading. The only unassailable certainty is that the Celtic manager will be judged by the tyrant of results.

Mowbray's pre-match press conference ahead of tomorrow's trip to Dunfermline in the Active Nation Scottish Cup was an exercise that had to be completed for form's sake. The words spilled out about Scott Brown's ascendancy to the captaincy, about Robbie Keane's long- term prospects and about the injured - Andreas Hinkel and Jos Hooiveld - who will not play in Fife. But it is all about action for Mowbray now. There has been an insistence that the manager has been unlucky, that the team is being rebuilt and that Celtic are behind him the long-term. But Mowbray needs to win tomorrow. He is now in the business of short-term gains.
