An inquiry into health and safety in the workplace has been launched as it emerged workplace accidents last year cost pound(s)187 million.

The Scottish Affairs Committee met in Aberdeen yesterday to begin the inquiry and set out the areas it would scrutinise. The MPs will look at questions such as whether the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has correctly identified problems, as well as what effect HSE staff cuts might have on the organisation and its work in Scotland.
