DAVID WHITTON, the former MSP for Strathkelvin and Bearsden, has joined a list of 26 Labour Party hopefuls vying to replace David Cairns as the MP for Inverclyde.

Mr Whitton, who lost his Holyrood seat to the SNP in last month's election, said he had been encouraged by local people to put his name forward for the vacancy caused by the death of Mr Cairns.
