Summary

3/5 stars When it comes to musicianship and songwriting, it's difficult to argue that Neil and Tim Finn, pictured, have degenerated or been distracted. They still write warm and immediate melodies, and have a kind of intensity that keeps them, after all this time, watchable and likeable. Tim, who these days looks like an Open Uni biology professor, does a strange dance, whereby he stands on one leg and looks like he's trying to get rid of the shoe on the other. He does whistling solos and leaps about like a crazed preacher, and it's kind of nice to see.

But there's also a lack of self-awareness that has seen them fall into the trap that many a not-as-young-as-they-used-to-be musician (eg, Elton John) falls into. The Finn brothers take with them on tour some very flashy instruments and, rather like the grandmother who learns to text, finds she rather enjoys it, and proceeds to bombard her entire family with surveillance messages, they use tinny keyboards - including the synth string facility - with enormous relish.
