Summary
MEZZO soprano Jane Irwin has been around long enough for us to be able to predict confidently that she will put on a good show. Even still, in her lunchtime recital with pianist Julia Lynch at the RSAMD on Friday, several features marked it out as an occasion that would have graced a major festival stage.
The programming of Irwin's recital was marked by a high degree of intelligence. At a time when vocal recitals frequently feature large clumps of songs, and even song cycles, by one or two composers, which gives unanimity if not variety to a programme, Irwin's judicious mix of songs by Debussy, Wolf and Berg amounted to a recital where one composer's music cleverly complemeted and even informed the others.See the full content of this document
