FOLLOWING your coverage of shortcomings in care of the elderly, you quote Labour MSP Johann Lamont's warnings about the neglect and abuse of older people ("Help for the elderly is missing the point'", The Herald, October 29).
Scottish population projections to 2033 show a 50per cent increase in the over60s. More than half of this elderly increase will be in the over-75s. While Scotland's working age population may increase slightly, the 16-60 age group (from which most healthcare workers and carers presumably come) will drop by 6per cent.
