Summary
I don't go on holiday. I think my life's one big holiday. My release is my animal sanctuary on the outskirts of Carlisle. It started in the nineties when I bought a Shetland pony. I always wanted a sheltie. I thought it was a bit lonely so I got one to keep it company. Then I got involved with some animal protection societies and it mushroomed from there with people asking me if I would take in unusual animals. We have about 300 now - I've never actually counted them.
We have around 150 horses and ponies and we keep highland cattle. We've got a deer herd too. We also have ostriches, emus, rheas, llamas, alpacas - they're my favourites - different types of pigs, goats, raccoons, capibaras, marmosets and African horned tortoises. We basically take whatever people ask us to look after. I finance it all myself. I get an awful lot of pleasure from them. My mum always said I'd bring in stray cats and dogs off the council estate where we lived when I was a kid.See the full content of this document
