Summary
Creative Scotland has had a long gestation with unforeseen complications. Although an artist who had taken so long to produce a work would have risked losing the commission, the arrival of the new funding body should herald a positive new approach to supporting the arts and developing a culture of creativity across Scotland.
It is born into hard times. Arts companies must expect to take a large and early share of funding cuts as local authority budgets are squeezed and lifeline services such as social care are given priority.
