HUNDREDS of stroke deaths could be prevented in Scotland every year using a new treatment which reduces the risk of mortality by more than 10%, it has been claimed.

The results of a US-led clinical trial comparing new drug, eliquis, against warfarin found patients taking eliquis reduced their risk of death by 11%. Their risk of developing blood clots fell by 21%, while their risk of internal bleeding dropped 31% compared to warfarin.
