STORM Large greets The Herald with a song. In an age when call waiting signals routinely assail us with taped music, this might have been disconcerting or even annoying. Except this song, sung a cappella down the line from London, is clearly not taped and is actually so beautifully sung that it seems only polite to wait for a decent pause before breaking in to say hello.
In a few minutes Ms Large - yes, Susan Storm Large is her real name - will demonstrate the multi-lingual abilities that, as well as her singing talent, have made her the natural replacement for the inestimable China Forbes on the tour that brings Pink Martini to Edinburgh next week. She will even show how, despite learning songs in four languages for this ultra-stylish band's extensive repertoire, she's completely hopeless at imitating the Scottish brogue.
