THE firm that ran a New Zealand coal mine in which 29 people, including two Scots, died has told an inquiry into the explosion it cannot afford to participate fully in the hearings.

The men's relatives said they were upset Pike River Coal would not be fully involved after the firm's lawyer made the announcement at the hearing.
