WITH reference to your report about hospitals showing lack of dignity and respect for the elderly (The Herald, July 23), may I recount one very recent experience?

Earlier this week my 87-year-old cousin was released from the impressive New Victoria Infirmary after nine weeks' treatment for serious injuries received in a fall. She was taken in a wheelchair from the ward to the waiting patient transport ambulance. She had a small case with her day and night clothes, medication, etc, two small carrier bags with books, magazines and other personal effects, and of course her handbag.
