FURTHER to your article "Mystery of statue hats is solved" (The Herald, September 8), the archaeologists from Manchester and London do not appear to have noted that the Norwegian Thor Heyerdahl, of Kon Tiki fame, solved the mystery some 55 years ago.
Heyerdahl's expedition to Easter Island is recorded in his book Aku Aku (published in Norwegian in 1957, in English a year later).See the full content of this document
