DAVID Stenhouse makes several thoughtful points in his article (May 24) on power exercised by Scots in England; but he lets his argument down by claiming that the 30 or so Scots representing English seats are somehow a sign that Scots "have more power than ever before in the United Kingdom".

Many of the Scots representing English seats such as Liam Fox, Michael Ancram and Jaqui Lait are Tories who either lost their Scottish seats due to national distaste or simply gave up looking for a winnable one to fight and moved south in order to further their Anglophile unionist outlook.
